Check out this super simple, yet very cool valentines day craft! Kid’s love popup books, so why not create your own popup Valentines? We love Disney in our house, we chose to make a Pop-Up Minnie Mouse Valentine, but you can use any characters you like!
- Construction paper
- Glue Stick
- Optional: Stickers, Glitter, and other embellishments
Step 1: Cut out the “Pop Up”
Fold your inner piece of construction paper in half. I chose white because its easier to write on, but you can choose any color. Cut two slits in the middle to make a wide ‘tab’, and fold it up. Then create two smaller ‘tabs’ on the ends, as illustrated below.
Then open your card, and fold these ‘tabs’ inward. This is what you’ll glue your character and shapes to! It creates a pop-up effect when you open the card.
Step 2: Create Your Characters and Shapes
For Minnie Mouse, I used a roll of Minnie Mouse Duck Tape and a votive candle to trace circles. You could use a small bowl and quarters, or anything else around you that’s a similar size! I also hand-drew a bow for Minnie. Trace, cut out, and and glue your pieces together. I opted to add a few hearts to the side of Minnie Mouse, but you could do any shape!
Step 3: Assemble the Inside
Glue your pieces to the pop-up ‘tabs’ in your card and add text to the inside of your card.
Now the inside of your card is done!
Step 4: Outer Cover
Fold your outer cover in half. Glue your outer cover to your card, and decorate it! Add any extra embellishments you like. I chose to add more hearts, but you could add stickers, glitter, ribbon, and more!
Your Pop-Up Minnie Mouse Valentine is complete! Your valentine will surely love this custom, thoughtful creation.
